NAHANT — Chief Timothy Furlong is pleased to announce that the Nahant Police Department will be wearing pink patches all October long in order to raise awareness of breast cancer, in partnership with the Pink Patch Project.

Throughout October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the department will wear a pink version of the department’s patch on their uniforms in order to show their support for those who are battling — or have battled — breast cancer.

Additionally, pink patches are available for purchase at the police station, with proceeds directly benefitting breast cancer charities. To purchase a patch, visit the police station at 198 Nahant Road with cash or a check made out to the Nahant Police Association.

Additionally, the Nahant Police and Fire Departments will join together later this month for a softball game to again raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Two teams of first responders will face off on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Lowland Softball Field. Food and shirts will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefitting breast cancer charities.

“Breast cancer is a disease that affects so many people, and we are proud to raise awareness and show support for those whose lives have been impacted by it,” Chief Furlong said. “I want to thank our officers who will be participating in this meaningful program, as well as our partners at the Nahant Fire Department for joining us in the effort to raise money to benefit those still fighting breast cancer.”
